García de Caamaño Albariño

Pazo de Rubianes · D.O. Rías Baixas · Val do Salnés

A beautiful intense yellow, steely, clean and bright. Intense floral aromas of rose petals and perfumed flowers, candied citrus and dried apricot, over notes of freshly cut grass and fresh pastry. Complex and elegant: the fruit keeps the lead and balances the confectionery notes that come from long ageing on the lees. Creamy, very silky and enveloping on the palate, with volume and body. Fruit, pastry and brioche fill the palate without the wine ever losing its freshness or minerality, a balance that gives it another dimension.

Pairs with: Baked turbot, monkfish in butter sauce and seafood risotto. Its creamy texture and aromatic complexity suit firm-fleshed fish and delicate sauces.

Winemaking

A cellar-worthy Albariño named for the founder of the House of Rubianes, García de Caamaño, and aged two full years before release. From the estate's oldest pergola- and trellis-trained parcels. Only the free-run juice is used, fermented at low temperature with the vineyard's own yeasts, then aged 12 months on its fine lees with regular bâtonnage and a further 12 months in stainless steel under an inert atmosphere. It rests 3–4 months in bottle before release. Drinks well for up to 12 years.

About Pazo de Rubianes

The largest vineyard in the Salnés valley: 25 hectares of south-west-facing slopes between 100 and 250 meters, less than 3 km from the Atlantic, on shallow sandy soils of granite origin. The trellis-trained vines are 20–30 years old and grown under permanent cover crops. Every wine is made solely from estate fruit, hand-harvested parcel by parcel and vinified separately. The vineyard wraps around a botanical garden declared an International Garden of Excellence and celebrated for its camellias, which is why Professor Stephen Hawking called these the "camellia Albariños" when he visited in 2015. The estate sits in Vilagarcía de Arousa, overlooking the Ría de Arousa.
