Cantamuda El Pino

Briones Abbad · D.O. Ribera del Duero · Roa

Straw yellow with a lemon-yellow rim, clean and bright. Tropical and citrus notes on the nose, with toasty oak in the background and pastry aromas. A fresh, lively entry, dense and unctuous through the mid-palate, with a ripe and very long finish. Balanced throughout, with hints of nuts (almonds) on the finish.

Pairs with: Roast suckling pig, baked lamb and braised beef cheeks. Ideal for traditional slow-cooked dishes, where the concentration of the wine matches the intensity of the meat.

Winemaking

Made to recall childhood in the vineyards, when parents and grandparents would hand the children a bunch of albillo grapes to eat in the shade of the vines. 100% Albillo Mayor, a variety tied to the area and to the family's tradition, from their own vineyard at 810 m in the El Pino site of La Horra (Burgos), on sandy, calcareous soils over deep gravel. Hand-harvested into 15 kg boxes with double selection in the vineyard and winery. Cold-macerated on its skins for 8 hours, pressed and fermented in stainless steel, then worked on its lees and matured 4–6 months in 100% French oak barrels.

About Briones Abbad

Makers of the Cantamuda wines: a family project of Carmen and Luis Ángel in Ribera del Duero, from their own vineyards around La Horra, near Roa: high-altitude sites such as La Trinitaria and El Pino at 810–820 m, on sandy, calcareous and gravelly soils. Everything is hand-harvested into 15 kg boxes and selected twice, in the vineyard and again at the winery. In 2018 the family bought and restored their old store at the Roa railway station, built around 1956.
