Eder de Valdelana Barrel-Fermented White

Valdelana · D.O.Ca. Rioja · Rioja Alavesa

Greenish yellow with bright rims. Exotic fruit with a delicate vanilla perfume. The quality of the fruit selection shows through, with soft, delicate tannins, closing on a high-intensity finish of great elegance. Elegant minimalism.

Pairs with: Grilled langoustines, roast chicken with herbs and semi-cured sheep’s cheese. Fermenting in barrel and three months on the fine lees give it the weight for richer white meat and creamy sauces, while the Malvasía keeps it aromatic.

Winemaking

Malvasía, a minor variety in Rioja: suited to Mediterranean climates and poor soils, highly sensitive to humidity, with medium-sized spherical bunches that turn reddish when ripe. Vineyard over 60 years old on calcareous clay soil, in a Mediterranean climate with hints of Continental and average annual rainfall of 650 litres. Hand-harvested in the second week of September. Cold maceration and temperature-controlled fermentation; spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in barrel, where the wine stays on its fine lees for three months.

About Valdelana

The Valdelana family has grown grapes in Elciego (Rioja Alavesa) since the end of the 19th century, farming around 150 hectares of Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Graciano, Viura and Malvasía at fairly low yields. Juan Jesús Valdelana, third generation of the family, is winemaker and manager; the estate produces wines exclusively from its own grapes to control quality from vineyard to bottle.
